About SICWS

In a world filled with opportunities, we are an organization dedicated to empowering women who have recently migrated to Canada. With our unique lived experiences, our hearts full of compassion and our minds focused on empowering you to be your best, our community is built on a foundation of love. Together we stand strong, as we support one another on the journey toward independence, financial freedom, personal growth and total wellness.

We are dedicated to supporting immigrant women to settle in and thrive in their new communities across Canada. Our mission is to create a sisterhood built on Love, as our one unique language… Not colour; a support group that empowers women to be vulnerable without fear, be confident, feel supported, and be bold to pursue their dreams in Canada.

At Sisters in Canada, we believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to build a successful and fulfilling life. We understand that the challenges of moving to a new country can be overwhelming, which is why we offer a safe and welcoming space for all to connect and support each other.

Our programs help to alleviate the burden of emotional trauma that a lot of immigrant women experience due to lack of support; we pay extra attention to both the psychological, sociological, and holistic mental awareness of our sisters’ well-being.

Originally from Kenya, attending the Sisters in Canada 2024 event was a fantastic experience. It brought together an inspiring community of women from diverse backgrounds, creating a space where I felt supported and connected. The event was well-organized, and the highlight was a panel of accomplished immigrant women who shared valuable insights from their professional journeys in Canada. Their warmth and thoughtfulness made the discussions engaging and impactful. This event was an excellent opportunity for networking and building friendships, and I’m already excited for Sisters in Canada 2025!

I’m so happy I was able to make it to the event. Honestly, in the morning, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to come, between the kids being sick and the long drive, it felt like a lot. But I’m so glad I decided to go! I’m still buzzing with the energy from you and everyone else there. It was such an amazing event! I learned so much, reconnected with some familiar faces, and met so many lovely people. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, and I had some really great conversations. I already can’t wait for the next annual event! Thank you again for putting together something so special

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, I had the privilege of speaking at Safe Haven 2.0 alongside Olga Stachova, Azra Bijli Hussain, Bukkie Adewuyi, and Elvis. We shared insights on building sustainable relationships in Canada during an engaging panel discussion. It was a meaningful experience connecting with my fellow panelists and over 200 attendees, including allies, all with unique immigrant stories. Thank you to @therealmatildaobiajunwa, founder of Sisters in Wellness, for creating such a supportive space for immigrant women to find community, strength, and sisterhood.

Nataizya Mukwavi

I really looked forward to the Safe heaven event because I hoped I’d come home with new ideas on how to navigate my path in Canada. It was really inspiring, hearing stories of how immigrant women have been able to thrive in a new Country, and that helped to keep the fire in me burning; if others can do it, I can and I will. I also connected with other sisters and we’re still in touch. It was an amazing gathering.

I feel blessed to have come across this community of like-minded women, willing to help each other grow, provide support and compassion. I have attended both meetings and I left feeling better about myself and knowing they are a great support system. They made me realize that no matter how bumpy the road is, I will be fine. The last meeting was at a time when I was feeling low, but that time out with sisters gave me the needed courage and zeal for which I will always be grateful. God bless you Matilda for answering the call to serve.

"The event, Sisters' in Canada is truly an enriching experience, and I find myself wishing for more frequent gatherings, perhaps every weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed the recent gathering."

“My experience at Safe Haven 2023 was phenomenal and it was a breath of fresh air for me. Coincidentally it happened at a point where I was feeling less motivated due to the delay of my work permit renewal and not being able to work for months. Immediately I saw the advert, I told myself I need to be at this gathering of women sharing their stories and experiences with each other, especially new immigrants. I volunteered happily, and travelled from Kamloops to Surrey without a flinch because I felt and I know I needed the break. My hubby encouraged me to go for this program as well and I was glad I encouraged my friend in Surrey to join me. She was happy she came and she had some good gems jotted down. I had the pleasure of meeting the convener, she is such a wonderful person, and some new friends. We still keep in touch till date. I love what Sisters in Canada stands for and I will support them in any way possible to make it better.”

"Participating in the "Connect and Chill" event with my sisters in Canada was personally an incredible experience. It provided a safe and judgment-free space for us to be open and vulnerable, connecting with other women. The atmosphere was filled with fun, offering a refreshing break from life's chaos. I relished the enjoyable games and delicious food. It was a definite success, and I eagerly anticipate our next gathering. Kudos to the organizers for making it memorable."
